Aloha!

I was talking to my son yesterday. He’s a Marine Corps officer, I’m a retired Navy Chief

We got to talking about our lives serving the USA in our own respective branches.

Let me say a few things about my son. He’s a few inches taller than me, he’s 6’3. He’s a pretty big guy. In that I mean very muscular. A lot of lifting and working out over the years. He eared his bachelors degree while working full time in the MC and is now working on a masters degree.

I said to him many years ago, maybe 20 years ago that I would have done things different in joining the military (hind sight being 20-20) I would have joined the MARINES. At the time he said no way he would go into the military. Nice talk Dad

But he did join at the age of 21

He’s been in the Marine Corps 11 years now and is a Chief Warrant Officer 2

I had a few to many beers last night. Sent him the Navy song Anchors away. YouTube. It was the Naval Accademmy somebody added pic to. Wasn’t bad but they fugered up some words and sound like they got there nuts cut off when they were young boys

I sent it to my son anyway cause the video part was ok
Posting now. In a moment

You might think Navy is just about ships and submarines. Hell no! Navy and Marine Corps teamed together many years ago

We have the best ships, the best Jets. An extremely talented crew. Got to say one thing about Naval Aviators. Not many can become one. Being a pilot is easy enough. Those guys join the Airforce

Naval Aviators and the very best maintenance team ever are US Navy.

Not everybody knows this. The United States Marine Corps and US Navy are ONE

I am not all inclusive. Left some thing out

Navy Seals!
They can parachute way up higher than they have oxygen (they breath through air tanks)
They are very at ease under the sea
They are stealthy
Proven crackshot riflemen,
They actually aren’t a bunch of Arnold S big guys
What they are is an amazing team of folks who have underwent an extremely, emphasize extremely hard training process. No offense to the Green Berets who are an amazing force

Guess what I’m saying is

There are very great volunteer men and women who give their all for us to live in a free USA. I’m a little partial to Navy, I spent close to 30 years serving

I’m kind of old now. I maybe get on a Navy kick now and again.
The men and women of the US Military deserve our respect and love

Dan if you have seen the vids about their difficult training, there is no way an AAAnald would be able to complete it. You have to support your weight in multiple trials. I'm sure some big guys can and do get through, but not many is my guess. :mug:

Aloha!
Have not been around for awhile. Had something terrific (in my mind anyways) to say. Then my wife led Danny, you promised to put. The filter in. Efff. Been avoiding that. She caught up with me this weekend. It’s just an under counter water filter with a water spout. Got to drill a small hole in the stainless sink and the rest is easy

Two years ago I’d say Hawaii has the best drinking water and filters not needed. Hawaii water isn’t fluorinated, chlorinated or or the other “Chlo”word

Except now of days some of Oahu’s water is a bit contaminated by my Navy.

WWII Navy underground fuel tanks leaking into a small section of Oahu’s water table. It’s an island. I still drink the water. The ppm to me is insignificant but to many, like my wife it’s fearful

Hence I’m putting in a water filtrated spout at the kitchen sink. Don’t even know off it will filter the tiny ppm of oil (if it even reaches our particular water supply) but will make my wife happy

I just am really not in the mood to bore through the stainless sink and do the plumbing work. Not altogether difficult. But it’s my day off!!

Counter to my lazy day. Pay a plumber x amount of excessive dollars.

I’m now motivated to do the job now. If I truly thought it was above my skill set…..well then maybe I’d call in a plumber. Well see

If things go to crap I’ll post video

I'd like to put an RO system in my basement and pipe it up to my sink. A tiny, undersink system doesn't interest me. I want something that can provide all my brew day water any time.

Aloha!
Long time I haven’t posted. I hope you and your family is well. Sincerely!

I’m not on HBT much these days. Newcomers probably never heard of me, Dan.

That’s because I’m nothing special, but I’m a very lucky guy in my opinion because I was fortunate to meet many wonderful folks on HBT over the last 12 years.

I’m not on here often these days.

I was listening to an old song tonight. Actually it wasn’t by chance I found the song…I looked it up.

I’m close to 60 years old and this song I’m going to put in was probably made before I was 10
I’ve always liked it, didn’t know what it meant.
Now know a little more . I think it is a song written in regret for all the lives lost because of human nature to dominate each other.
You can call me an ahole because I’m retired from the military 30 years I served.
I reap the benefits in pension Ok. But I did serve my country very well and at the sacrifice of my bride of 12 years.

My kids took the hardest blow. Divorce is hard on a man and wife but harder on the kids

That’s why I’m truly impressed by them. They could have given excuses because their mom and dad got divorced. But they didn’t

Each of them are doing well now. Their mom and me must have done something right. I don’t even know how.

My kids didn’t have an easy life, I was gone overseas a lot with the Navy. My wife at the time was a resident alien from Australia. Took here seven years to become a USA citizen.

The marriage failed after 12 years. I could blame the military life back then and that’s partly true. But mostly it was my fault.

It got me thinking of a song. Not sure why?

If putting that song. One Tin Soldier sounds like I’m preaching love, peace and happiness. That’s a pretty good conclusion!👍

I’m not a very religious person but do believe in a higher power. I won’t go into that because this is not the correct place. But I will say again I do believe in a high creature of a the universe we know

There is absolutely no way to explain the beauty and wonder of the world we live in here on planet earth

We live in the most wonderful of times.
You might think I’m a “tree hugger”, is that still a saying?

I’m not actually. I’m all for solar power, don’t get me wrong.

What I am for is taking advantage of our planets natural resources. Oil, natural gas. It’s in abundance given to us by the creator of earth

Ok. That’s probably gone to far on a non debate thread. I started this particular thread 10 or so years ago and have been scolded once for delving in to politics or religious stuff. I don’t remember which. Probably both
My sincere apologies to you and to the mods if I crossed a line.

Moderators please feel free to delete my posts you feel don’t belong here

Aloha! 🤙
I was driving into work the other day. Heading east on H1 there are three major roads on Oahu. H1 is east to west , H2 sort of south to north, H3 a little southish to north eastish.
Anyway believe me traffic in the morning and afternoon on this island is horrendous. Truly horrendous except during school breaks. Believe me school breaks might not be a break for parents but it is for the rest of us driving. Noo crazy soccer moms crowding the roads. Etc. craZy **** happens on Hawaii roads. It’s an effing island. People figure if they speed excessively over 10-16 miles they get someplace faster. If you want to do the math which I really don’t want to do for you. I’ve done it a bunch of times in my head. Conclusion is idiots!

The other day I was driving to work speed limit/traffic speed. The most beautiful clouds covered the mountains and there was beautiful rainbow. I thought to myself. Does anybody else see this?
Probably not many. People take everything for granted, if I’m being honest I probably do too

Kind a sucks and kinda nice we have busy lives but we miss out on the beautiful world we live in

Dan Dawson

I’m on a roll. May You and me never take for granted our beautiful world

There is pain and drama for sure

But it’s up to us to make the world a good place. It’s our role

Talking about this always makes me think about Louis Armstrong singingWbat a Wonderful World and Brother Iz combo of What a Wonderful World and Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Would have been pr witty Wonderful
If Louis and Brother Iz got a chance to sing together

Thanks Dan for reminding me to smell the roses along the way. Life gets busy for sure. Reminds me of the opening chapters of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. When he's riding out of town against rush hour traffic and commenting on all the miserable faces he sees in the cars heading into the city. Haven't thought about that book for a looong time. :mug:

I had cataract surgery three months ago. I've needed glasses for over 50 years, but no longer. That's a big win. It makes up for a lot of the hatness for the year for me.
Were you nearsighted before? I've been like +4.5 since the 4th grade; is there really hope that in old age I could finally be free of contact lenses and reading glasses? I'm all ears!

I was nearsighted. When the cataract in my right eye got too bad for near or far, I got a distance lens put in the right eye. Now I have what they call monovision - right eye for distance, left for near. According to the doctor, there was a risk involved - the surgery could cause a detached retina and possible loss of vision in that eye. So I'm very happy with the results, but I would never take the risk if the vision was correctable with glasses.

Sadly as well, I can relate to that. Sometimes I try to do better, and this seems to be somewhat easier w age. Not sure if this is because I've mellowed, or am just getting too tired to argue.
You're in the sweet spot, but it's fleeting. You'll be a full-fledged angry old man before you know it, so enjoy it while you can.
