Hey all,

I have quite a few hops at present and im looking at hops that pair well together.

My next beer i was looking at a double ipa and i wanted to pair Chinook for the piney aroma and flavour and Ahtanum for the floral citrussy aroma.

Has anyone ever done this pairing and how did it turn out..

Im presuming the Ahtanum is better at the end of the boil since its 4.6 Alpha and the Chinook is 14%

Cheers for the help
Ian

The alpha percent doesnt determine whether a hop is "better" at the end of the boil, its just a measure of bittering potential. Case in point - El Dorado is widely regarded as an aroma hops despite it being like +15%

You really cant go wrong as long as you pick a flavor profile to concentrate on and choose hops based on that. I've found Chinooks pine and grapefruit goes well with stuff like columbus, simcoe, mosaic, rakau, anythign else piney with some fruit
