Hey, I'm pretty much new to brewing (my friend and I brewed a little in college) and I can't find any homebrew places in the area. I've been ordering stuff online but it's such a pain and I'm impatient :p Also, I worry about ordering yeast, what with the shipping and everything. Last time I got a smack pack that was already swollen. Anybody know of any places nearby?

I just moved away from NYC.
Hook up with these guys: http://hbd.org/nychg/

And really the closest LHBS is in East Northport, Long Island. You can take the train there, the station is right across the street from Karp's Homebrew Shop.

Order online from MoreBeer or Northern Brewer. I ordered from them all time and never had any issues.

if you want to come into jersey, it's got to be closer than long island, try Brewers Apprentice Freehold a few miles past the race track. Load up on what you need for awhile. Make a day of it , go to the track and there are a lot of good restaurants on Main Street (good beer selections on tap)> http://www.brewapp.com/

I dont think there are any good homebrew stores directly in the city but if you ever go to westchester I've been to this one http://www.cornells.com/index.cfm?s=5&p=4 its not much to look at but they have all the basic stuff, grains, hops, yeast, malt extracts.
Any brewshops are likely to be fairly far away, so maybe you can schedule them to coincide with any regular trips you might make outside the city.
