Hello all
I am Back and working on a brown ale with maple syrup.
I am not sure how much(Oz lb), when to add (boil primary secondary)
I just started a new job 7 days on 7 days off. so now i will have time for the honey dos and beer and beer.

9# pale
6 Oz 90 L crystal
3 oz Chocolate
8 oz flaked oats(head)

1.5 oz Golding's(60)
1/2 oz Golding's(15)
Irish moss (15)
thinking 5.5 oz of maple syrup
I am going to try a Irish ale yeast.

any tips will help.

thanks

I would cut the pale to 6-7 pounds, otherwise the alcohol flavor will dominate. Browns taste best when the ABV is around 4%. Or double the crystal and the chocolate.

FWIW, I seem to recall Papazian claiming that it takes a lot of maple syrup (a pound or more?) to give a beer a pronounced maple flavor.

thanks, one book I have looked at said something about adding a woodsy flavor to the beer I don't know what that is but I am willing to find out. I will cut back on the pale and how do I convert dry(LB) to wet(LB). thanks

I just happen to have the Joy of Home Brewing sitting next to me, and unless it's a misprint, Charlie says it takes a gallon of maple syrup to get a good maple flavor. Ouch.
