I decided this year to try and grow my own hops. I ordered some rhizomes of Willamette from midwest supplies. I had planed to grow them on an archway in our backyard to function both as an ornamental plant but to harvest at the end of the season and use in my beer. My question is will this work well. The archway is about 7 feet high. I had read that hops can grow up to 20-25 feet. Could i train the hops to grow up, over, and then back down the archway? This would give them about 15-16 feet to grow. We also have an arbor that I could grow them on but this again is only about 8-9 feet high.
