For a 5 gallon batch, you'd need approximately 6 pounds of DME. The specialty grains provide a negligible amount of fermentables, although they do provide color, flavor and aroma.

Looking at "Brewing Classic Styles" for the red ale it calls for 8.1lbs of English Pale Ale LME. Which is 8.1/1.17 DME - According to my reading. That would be 6.9lbs of DME.

The listed ABV for the recipe is only 5.2.
