I made a starter with dme that was taffy like before I added it to the water.

It melted during the boil but for the most part it was hard and candy like.

I separate starter sized portions into Ziploc bags and keep them in my basement. Anybody run into this? Was it still edible by the yeast?

I pitched it tonight into my wort so fingers crossed.

Good news! My yeast is going nuts in my fermenter.

It was a pain melting that stuff though...didn't want it sticking to the bottom of my pot and scorching.

DME is very hygroscopic, meaning it will happily pull moisture from the air and turn to sticky goo. I go through the same thing every time I make a starter, no worries. Just keep the extra DMA as tightly sealed as you can.
