How about using this stuff to seal the lid on my DIY stainless conical?

McMaster P/N: 9700K16

Its 1/2" square Buna-N Rubber cord stock. Do you think this will work well? How can I seal the ends together?

Looks like it'd work just fine. I used 3/16" x 3/4" rectangular silicone stripping with adhesive on one side. It's in the same section of the McMaster website as the cord stock you mention.

Seal the ends with food grade silicone adhesive.

Sounds like what you use might be better with the adhesive backing... have you noticed any off taste or smell you think might be attributed to this?

thanks
