I recently took a trip to Russian River and had some of their Damnation Batch 23 beer. I live in Las Vegas, so I can't purchase Russian River beers locally at all... I would like to try and make a clone of this fantastic beer, but I'm missing a few key ingredients. I have Vinnie's recipe for his strong golden ale (aka Damnation), and I know the hops are switched out in the 23 recipe and I know which ones are used in the 23. But my biggest question is whether anyone knows what he is using for his base malt. In an interview in How to Brew, Vinnie states that the base malt used in Damnation was switched out in their Damnation 23 recipe. Also, he suggests using WLP500 in his golden ale recipe - anyone know if the same yeast is used in Damnation 23? Thanks in advance everyone!
