carboys... alternative...?

what is the differnce between the the arrowhead plasitc 5gal bottles and the plastic carboys you buy from the HB shop...?

I was looking on the arrowhead bottle and cant find what type of plastic they are made out of, can they be used...?

It has to do with the porosity of the plastic. You can use the arrowhead jugs, but they are not oxygen proof. Oxygen can leech through the plastic creating off flavors. I never noticed any, but after some use, the bottoms cracked out and I lost 10 gallons of beer. You could use them until you have the cash to get the good ones. The number of the plastic is usually 7.

Just get a 5 gallon bucket for $4.00 at Home Depot.
