So I have just soaked my carboy with PBW overnight, twice. I still have some hoppish/yeastish light brown residue at the top where the ring of the top settled. It is barely visible but I can see it. I do not have a carboy brush and did not think I would need one given the fact I hear so much about PBW and OXy clean soaks being all that you need. My question is can I leave this bit on and ferment or will it ruin the batch? Do I need a carboy brush?

Sanitizers are only effective if you have first removed the soil load.

PBW is great but, it can't get it all. I usually knock the crud off with a brush and a rinse before I put the chemicals to work.

Problem solved, a clean gray dress sock tied onto a closet hanger and bent to perfection. Blammo! no carboy brush needed!!! Clean as a whistle, starting my first American IPA this week when my mill arrives. Lets Get It!!!
