Gave this a first try today, worked pretty well. Gotta play with the mix of glue sticks to crayons to get a better running and volume but it was a good first go. Thanks guys, I used 16 crayons to 27 glue sticks. I originally went for 1:1 but it was too liquid at that so I kept adding sticks three at a time. This was only able to cover the tops of about 30 bottles.

Now I know next time I need to double it all. But the next morning some of the wax was cracked. I'll post a picture. I think I would use an even heavier portion of glue sticks next time.

I think the glue stick method will work cuz I think they will come off easier. Once I take one off ill post the results.

Is this the same as the bottle wax sold in brew shops?

No, what I did was just bought crayons and glue sticks and melted them together in a cleaned out soup can and dipped the bottles. This let's you make whatever color you want.

Have one more thing about my first experience, I don't know what happened but when I was near the end one of the bottle caps actually released pressure while I was dipping it and look what happened ImageUploadedByHome Brew1397138366.373302.jpg

Any chance of getting the weight of a gluestick and a crayon? The crayon is probably the same as any other but I've seen a few different sizes of gluestick.

Your wax has quite a bold color. I dig it. When I waxed mine, I just mixed color wax's from the LHBS and some cinnamon to scent it since it was a fall beer.

I also tilted the can while I dipped to make the wax slanted.

Thanks! And wow never would have thought about adding spices for a scent. Good idea. And I like the slanted look!

Just did my second batch. This time I did 30 glue sticks to 32 crayons. I went for a darker color because this was for my Midnight Stout. ImageUploadedByHome Brew1397593999.279545.jpgImageUploadedByHome Brew1397594009.300709.jpgImageUploadedByHome Brew1397594019.330615.jpg

Also filled a few swing top bottles so I drizzled some on it, came out kinda cool ImageUploadedByHome Brew1397594055.255398.jpg

So even with the supplies it is still cheaper than the wax sold at the LHBS?

Anyone here tried this stuff?

Other than it being a highly toxic chemical that you are putting all over a bottle of beer...:)

I have a can of that and it didn't coat something that was aluminum. It was a spray can of it too so it was shaken as instructed. It peeled right off.
