I have used it twice. Once without the Hopblocker and once with the Hopblocker. Each time I used it, I would immediately flush it with 2-3 gallons boiling water, then 5 gallons of hot water, then 4-5 gallons of cool water then 3-4 gallons of starsan. Then drain it and let it sit.
After a few weeks I thought about the debris that would probably be left in it as my HERMS system is on hold I cannot use that to chill. So I filled the HLT with 10 gallons of cool water and back flushed. Then I added another 10 gallons and flushed again.
This is what I captured after 20 gallons of flushing both ways:
After another 10 gallons for a total of 30 we decided to fill the HLT again, add a screen to the top to catch the debris as we recirculated the water so as not to waste so much.
This is what we have after 30 minutes of recirculating thru the Therminator switching the input every 10 minutes:
I was trying to get it clean so I can use it with hop bags and the Hopblocker next time but I'm beginning to wonder if I am ever going to get this thing clean.
