I'm harvesting my Cascade(?) hops, I noticed that some of them have black spots on them. Some of the black spots are very small, and I can scrape them off with a pocket knife.
However, other spots, like the one pictured below, are larger and shiney. When I was examining this cone, a tiny brown bug started zooming around on the cone. I killed it with my knife, but it is too small to take a pic of.

What is going on here? Should I abandon these cones, or just pull off the spots?
