I went to San Diego on a business trip and found Oggi's, a pizza/micro brew place. The first night I tried pizza and a beer. Good enough, but filling and heavy.
The next night I went with a salad and beer because when traveling it's very easy to eat too much with restaurant portions. It was a great combination. The beer, being liquid but heavy, went really well with the salad, being solid food but light.
BTW: I'm talking about a big salad (homage to the Seinfeld episode unintended) with lots of green lettuce, some meat, eggs, veggies, cheese, dressing, etc. Not a small side salad. A big salad takes more time to eat than a slice or two of pizza, so you can have a few beers along the way.
I've started making my own salads to go with a beer. They're pretty simple.
Anyway, my conclusion: a big salad and some good brews is a Great Combination.
