Everyone always talks about websites, books, and videos when ways to get information is brought up... I know there are a lot of great beer podcasts out there so let's give them a shout out! Anddddddd go

Cheers
Matt

I listen to the Beersmith podcast, but I must say, it is just pure information (i.e., it can be a bit dry). I remember going on a long road trip with my girlfriend and since I was driving and she was reading, I played Beersmith over the car stereo. At one point the podcast was going on about some mumbo-jumbo science and she started chuckling and said "Oh my god, I can't believe you willingly listen to this."

My favorite is probably Experimental Brewing with Denny and Drew. It also contains a lot of good info, but the presentation is considerably more upbeat and fun.

I've listened to three on a regular basis:

My favorite is also Experimental Brewing, but its pretty new and has less than 10 episodes.

I also like The BeerSmith Home and Beer Brewing Podcast

The one I've most listened to is Brew Strong with John Palmer, but it's my least favorite because about 1/3 of it is ads.

I've gotten all of these on my iphone using the podcasts app.

Sour Hour and Basic Brewing for me

Also listen to some Steal This Beer - not brewing, but beer related and they interview a lot of pro brewers.

Most beer podcasts suffer from the same malady of all podcasts: too much time hee-hawing and bs'ing about nonsense that has nothing to do with the titled subject. The host may think I care about 20 minutes of last weekends grocery run but usually I don't. I have bs thresholds that result in deleting the podcast or just fast forwarding.

The possible exceptions are Basic Brewing and Beersmith. James Spencer moves the show along nicely. He is occasionally limited by dullness of the guest but he wouldn't know that ahead of time.

Brad usually has good subjects and little fluff. His interviewing is a bit scripted but his beer knowledge is terrific. I wish someone would interview him.

Jamil's Brewing with Style is pretty good once they get on topic. I like his co-hosts too. Little too much commercials and bs'ing. Interesting that his older shows especially first year were completely on point.

I use Overcast app and it has a nice fast forward feature to get thru ads and senseless chatting.

I listen to quite a few, some better than others, but that is something you will have to make up your own mind about, everyones taste differs... I commute 15 hours a week, and often listen on headphones at my desk as well, so I keep downloading even the sub standard shows as I consume so many hours a week... I also listen to a crap load of Military history podcasts...

In no particular order, just pulling them off my Ipad:

Those Who Brew
Homebrew Happy hour
Brewnology
Brewing business
Come and Brew It
Pubcast
Homebrew Bound
Four Brewers
Fermentation nation
Experimental brewing
Brew Talk online
Jamil Show
Sour hour
Dr Homebrew
Sunday Session
Brew Strong
Lunch Meat

Sunday Session if you're into goofing off and laughing, good for a 3+ hour drive or long commute. It's all craft beer related now.

Sour hour is good if you're into making sours

I'll put on a brewing with style before i make a recipe for that style to get going in the right direction.

Great topic. There are so many podcasts out there now it can make ones head spin for hours. I personally don't care for the podcasts that get too much into commercialism, shopping and general long winded jibberish. I really don't tolerate the ones that use language that would make my Veteran Army Brother In Law blush. While I do like Basic Brewing and some of the BeerSmith ones, my personal favorite is Brewnology.

**Yes, I am one of the hosts....so a little personal bias there. But, honestly, you really do have to listen and judge for yourself. You do have a lot of options; use iTunes, Stitcher, Podcast Addict or whatever you prefer. Download a few and find something that hits your interest. Hope this helps.

Lunch Meat

lunch meat is by far the most informative podcast, especially the dark meat episodes. too bad it has been canned....

Ha........ No doubt. There are many things I have learned from that podcast that I can never, ever, ever "unlearn" - no matter how hard I might try.:mug:

Was totally unaware of Brewnology..... just subscribed on iTunes - the episode descriptions look very interesting. Looking forward to checking it out - Can't get enough brewing podcasts.:mug:

I'm exactly the opposite. I prefer Beersmith because its to the point and informative (mumbo-jumbo science).

I've tried some of the others like Experimental Brewing with Denny and Drew and the "talking heads" aspect is boring & frustrating because they are trying to be more upbeat and fun. I really like Denny and Drew when they are on Beersmith.

I'm not saying You're wrong and I'm right, but that we are just different. :mug:

Agreed once on point, it's an informative gold mine of information. But, wading through the amateur hour attempts at sophomoric bathroom humor, verging on vulgarity is a general turnoff.

I listen to the Session (lots of past episodes that are interesting), Brew Strong, Sour Hour, Brewing with Style, Experimental Brewing, Basic Brewing Radio, and sometimes Beersmith (Brad is really boring though, he needs to get a bit more excited and not have long periods of silence, it all depends on the guest though). I've listened to the past couple of years of The Brewing Network shows. It's good entertainment for my commute with good brewing knowledge. I skip through the commercials pretty quick and usually the last 30 minutes of the show.

I guess i am on the other side of all of this. I love the session and basically anything the Brewing Network does. For pure information, I love Doctor Home Brew, but I actively am working my way through the entire archive of The Session and I think it is awesome because of how much it has taught me and how much fun it is to listen. I also appreciate the vulgarity.

Yeah - 20+ years of teaching HS kids has not done a whole lot to elevate the level of what I find funny...... So, I am very easily entertained by the humor on the brewing network.

I generally always listen to podcasts when I am brewing. The Session is about perfect listening while I brew - some home brewing stuff, some commercial brewing stuff, some humor.

totally agree. the world is too serious anyway, i want my entertainment to be lighthearted.

There was a lunchmeat in August last year, I still hold out hope for an occasional episode to pop up...

I haven't listened to it yet, still working through the archives, but I'm close to finishing them all, and it's going to sick when I reach the last one...:(

These are my two faves, as well. Very informative, without being too dry.

I'll have to check out Experimental Brewing! I always thought the Beersmith one was dry as well. I figured it would scare new brewers into thinking the hobby is boring.

Cheers,
Matt

Listened to Episode 1 and I enjoyed it. I've downloaded #2 for tomorrow's drive.

I spend 2+ hours in the car for my commute everyday and, as a result, listen to quite a few podcasts. I started listening to the brewing network back in 07 and still do. The Sunday session probably isn't for everyone, particularly if you are just interested in brewing info. That said, they do have some great interviews with Brewers and beer industry folks that you could easily skip to and bail after. Some of their other programs mentioned here are a bit more focused.
