Bending the RIPP elements

I think my expert welder may have placed the hole for my element on the same plane as the dip tube or just a little higher. I dont think I made it real clear to him. I see alot of people take the ripp elements and bend them apart is it possible to bend them a little upward? Is it even ok to bend them at all?

I bent mine down near the bottom of the keggle so I would be able to use an immersion chiller or hop bag easier (if I want to). No guarantee that it is safe or will still work for you, but works out fine for me!
