The gray is what keeps the aluminum flavor out of the wort, and is really somewhat like the coating of cookpots.

T tentacles Well-Known Member Joined Jan 19, 2008 Messages 118 Reaction score 0 Apr 6, 2008 #5 My turkey fryer pot turned a dark grey when I did the initial boil. One thing I would reccomend would be to boil as full as you can get the pot. Eventually I will properly anodize the inside of the pot.
