brewing in italian beverage jar (with tap)

Can you brew in one of those Italian beverage jars, that kind used for sangria and punch with a brass tap at the bottom to let liquid out or is this tap likely to let contaminants in?

Brew in it? No. I would not try to heat anything in one of those things. Ferment in it? Probably, if you can get a good seal around the spigot and such.
