Been experimenting with hop bursting with some fantastic results so my numbers are a bit high...
1 oz nugget
2 oz Magnum
10 oz Cascade
2 oz Amarillo
2 oz Fuggles
1 oz Northern Brewer

The Magnum and most of the cascade were for a Honey IPA with all of the hop additions at 20 minutes (2 oz Magnum/1 oz Cascade), 15 (2 oz Cascade), 10 (2 oz Cascade), 5 (2 oz Cascade), flameout (1 oz Cascade), and currently dry hopping with 1 oz Cascade. The rest is split between a brown a porter and a pale.

Not to threadcrap but would you mind sharing your JavaHead clone recipe and tasting notes? I've been wanting to brew a clone but never found a recipe and don't really have the knowhow to make my own up yet.

Tell me more about this hop bursting

There are all sorts of threads on here about late hop additions or hop-bursting. Short version is you skimp on bittering additions and get almost all your bittering with huge amounts of late hop additions (20 mins - end of boil). The idea is that you get much more flavor and aroma. Downside is, as you can see from his post, you have to use a LOT more hops.

I've played with it as well and sort of use a hybrid approach for my I/PAs now: FWH to get a big but smooth bitterness, then big 15 & 5 minutes and big dry hops. Hop Heaven!!!! :tank:

Actually that just reminded me that I brewed that up in December, lol... I bottled it in January and used 3oz hops at bottling so must have just assigned it all to 2012.

Anyways, I have a little thread on it, I was hoping for some feedback but forged ahead on my own.

Let's Clone Troegs Java Head

I'll update it today, I bottled not too long ago and have some notes. It should be drinkable by mid February at the latest.

On the hopbursting topic, the hops were added to my Simcoe IPA in a Dogfish 60min manner but with more of a hopburst idea in mind. I split 5oz into dixie cups and added one cup every 30 seconds from 25min to flameout. I also did a 2oz dry hop.

Lots of sludge! It almost doesn't seem possible that all this came from those little cups.

man, i gotta get on the ball. 2 batches in this year and dry hopped a batch from late dec so far:

1 oz mt. hood
.5 oz tettnang

2 ozs amarillo or cascade (undecided til the beers fermented)

i did get an order from freshhops.com of a # of whole hops.

Damn, I'm slacking. I've used a big fat goose egg so far.

On deck is my second attempt at the Gumball Inspired WPA, this time with added Citra and Simcoe goodness.

Adding to the list this morning:
2oz.- simcoe

1oz.- williamette
1oz.- citra
.5oz.- Amarillo
.5oz.-warrior
For a late hopped APA & an extract mystery(going to use an IPA hop schedule):)

Couldn't find any Simcoe near me so I went 23.5 miles and bought
3lbs
While there I got
2oz.- mt. Hood
Might have to travel 86 miles tomorrow to find some citra! Too impatient to wait for On-line orders.:-#

Have 8oz. Cascade in my eSMaSH wit 2 more going in to dry hop. Doing another on Tuesday with Rakau same amounts. On top of that pound I just ordered a pound of Amarillo for the third eSMaSH.

Yes please enlighten us.

Sorry guys, late response! Don't want to thread jack so I'll make it quick- I'll drop all of my hops in at 20 minutes or less but you need extreme quatities of hops to get the IBU's high enough for an IPA. So far the results have been great and what you would expect. Lots of aroma and flavor due to the later additions. It converted a Belgium drinker to a Hop Head.

4oz. Simcoe
2oz. Mt. Hood
1oz. GR Select
.5oz. Citra
.5oz. Saaz
.25oz. Williamette
IPA&Cream ale
