I have a couple of aluminum stock pots like this one:

I'd like to add a port or two into the pot for a ball valve, sight glass, etc. I'm a little worried about structural integrity. The walls of the pot are about 4mm thick.

What do you think? Am I risking anything if I use one of the commonly accepted methods for boring a hole in this material and installing some fittings?

Did it with no problem to mine that looks just like that, and I just used a paddle bit. It's pretty simple and the metals really soft, and I haven't noticed any structural problems. I have three holes in the pot I got with my turkey fryer kit, and it much thinner with no apparent loss to structural integrity.

My original turkey pot is about that thin. Put a spigot and thermometer on it without a problem. You might look around for a heat diffuser plate to avoid scorching.
