Hi everyone,

I just graduated from the University of Virginia, and live with iamjonsharp. We have been brewing for about a year now and have several batches of both AG and EB.

My favorite beers are Wee Heavys, High ABV Belgians, and DFH 90 Min IPAs.

Thanks!

wahoowa...!!! I graduated in 2004... I didnt brew back then, but I've been brewing ever since I graduated... lots of info and tons of help here...

Hi guys , another Charlottesville brewer here, is there any good shops around the area or is Richmond the closest place? Made my first batch tonight can not wait for 4 weeks from now :tank:

Good grief, Evan has his own little brewing cult down there in Charlottesville! :tank:

Welcome, Beeropolis!

Here’s a list of homebrew stuff from around here:

Weekend Brewer in Chester (south of Richmond):

4205 West Hundred Road, Chester, Va. 23831

www.weekendbrewer.com

They have a website with all the prices and the items they sell. They have a huge selection of everything homebrew from beer to wine and the such. I think you can get stuffed shipped if need be as well.

Buck Island BBQ

2243 Thomas Jefferson Pkwy Charlottesville, VA 22902

http://www.bayoubbqing.com/WINE_and_BEER_KITS.html

The prices looked a little steep, but the closest in store location for wine and beer products. They don’t have a huge selection (some wine and extract brew kits and odds and ends), but if you need something in a pinch, it’s your best bet.

Appalachian Brewing Supply

http://www.absbrew.com/

I’ve never dealt with ABS, but their website says they will deliver for free if you live in this area. I think this is where Buck Island gets their beer kits. I don’t think ABS has a store, just web sales with free delivery around here. It looks like they just sell beer kits.

Regional Web Stores

There are also many regional homebrew stores that are pretty good (I listed 3, there are many others):

Austin Homebrew Supply

http://www.austinhomebrew.com/

Northern Brewer

http://www.northernbrewer.com

Listermann

http://www.listermann.com/

Both of these stores have flat shipping costs for your total order at only $5.99 (excluding some bulk items such as glass or 50 lb sacks of grain, etc), Austin’s is always 5.99, Northern Brewer is 5.99 through Oct. 15. Their sites are also really nice with all of the products and prices shown with good categorization. If I get stuff shipped, I’ve usually gone with Northern Brewer, but I’ve heard good things about both stores. Also, a place called Listermann’s has free shipping with orders over $35. I’ve never gotten anything from them, but have heard good things. All three sell beer and wine stuff.

You can definitely shop around, sometimes it can be cheaper to order online than to make the trek down to Richmond.

Check out our website for more details. www.fermentationtrap.com If you need any help between now and then send me an email [email protected] Look forward to sharing our brewing experiences with you all.
