I'm planning on brewing up my first BW for my father-in-law's birthday which will be aged in an oak barrel. My question is would using the yeast cake from a Left Hand Milk Stout clone be advisable. Not sure of any flavors that would come through.

What say you?

its just a big a** starter... my next brew is a barleywine so i obviously had to make a batch of brew last night to use the yeast cake (rye pale ale)...

Reusing yeast from a higher grav. beer for a high grav. beer is the only thing I would shy away from, I don't think you'll get any off flavors from a left hand milk stout clone. I would worry more about off flavors in repitching when using yeast from hoppier styles.
