I am stuck! I have a jerry can of LME, but I do not have an accurate scale. So, the questions is, how much volume does 1lb of LME take up... Or, in other words, how much does a cup (or a quart) of LME weigh?!?

I found all kinds of weight conversions for other products (sugar, corn, wheat, ext.. but none for LME)

Thanks!

I'll take a shot at it.

I know that the #5 size can of LME weights 3.3 pounds. I also know that a #5 size can holds about 1 1/2 quarts of water. Therefore.....

1 1/2 quart container should hold about 3.3 pounds of LME. :p

Not the same as what you asked but helps in a round about way.

If you find the calculations difficult, just use this chart:

Pounds of Pounds of Extract

Grain Liquid Dry
lb kg lb kg lb kg
1 0.453 0.75 0.34 0.6 0.27

1.5 0.68 1.13 0.51 0.9 0.41

2 0.91 1.5 0.68 1.2 0.54

2.5 1.13 1.88 0.85 1.5 0.68

3 1.36 2.25 1.02 1.8 0.82

3.5 1.59 2.63 1.19 2.1 0.95

4 1.81 3 1.36 2.4 1.09

4.5 2.04 3.38 1.53 2.7 1.22

5 2.27 3.75 1.70 3 1.36

5.5 2.49 4.13 1.87 3.3 1.49

6 2.72 4.5 2.04 3.6 1.63

6.5 2.94 4.88 2.21 3.9 1.77

7 3.17 5.25 2.38 4.2 1.90

7.5 3.40 5.63 2.55 4.5 2.04

8 3.62 6 2.72 4.8 2.17

8.5 3.85 6.38 2.89 5.1 2.31

9 4.08 6.75 3.06 5.4 2.45

9.5 4.30 7.13 3.23 5.7 2.58

10 4.53 7.5 3.40 6 2.72

I was wondering the same since st my supply shop they give you their receipes in quarts (usually 2 quarts of LME for 5 gallon receipes). I don't have a scale either. I looked through a lot of threads but no answers. I can't believe just you and me are wondering about this.

I don't have them at the moment, but my malt buckets measure out to 7 lbs LME by weight when full and I'm pretty sure they're also 2 quarts volume. I'll double check the volume when I get home.

So assuming that's right, 1 lb of LME should be 7/8ths cup by volume.

I got hold of an empty 3.3lb container. It took 4 3/4 cup to fill it.. So, it is basically 3lbs per quart.
