Hey all,
Just curious if anybody knows if brass is safe to use for air and water fittings related to brewing? My main concern is the presence of lead in brass but im not sure if it has a possibility of leaching into the brew or not. Anybody have any advice?

Palmer (who does heavy metal for a living) says brass isn't a problem. But if you want to remove the surface lead, soaking brass in a solution of vinegar and H2O2 does it. See howtobrew.com appendix B for details.

i have those ball valve fittings and just gave them the wash in the peroxide vinegar mix and they seem to be fine.

relax and enjoy.
