Hello everyone. Have been lurking around awhile without posting and have learned a tremendous amount just reading all of your threads.

My question is has anyone ever made use of a used pool filter in their brewing operations? If so what are you using it for?

My first thought is to use it as a fermentation chamber but not sure how I would go about doing it. Not sure if it would be feasible considering it is so large and I would have a tough time controlling fermentation temps.

Here is a link to what I have. http://www.savemorepoolstore.com/products/Hayward-Pro-Series-Top%2dMount-Sand-Filters.html

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'd be worried about small scratches along the inside caused by the sand providing lots of cozy places for bacteria to set up shop. I'd probably not use it.

Have you ever changed out the sand in a high rate sand filter? Those things get nasty. Its like a dirty bathtub ring X1000. Maybe a new one but not a used one.

When my kids were small we had a pop-up pool from Wal-mart. I wish I had kept the pump for it when we threw it out. I would think it could be used either for filtering or as a cheap march pump. They're definitely cheap. I think the pool, pump and every thing was only around $250.
