I don't see anything wrong with asking. I've seen ads that sounded more desperate than that.
Funny thing is that there is probably someone out there who has a bunch of it in their bsement and will be willing to give it to him. He will probably score a few things for free, and wind up buying the rest of the stuff needed for cheap.
For those of you who use craigslist I put this up, you should do me a favor and nominate it for best of.

I just shipped out a case and a half of grolsch style bottles last week that were collecting dust in my basement to Gonzoflick. He was just asking how much one would pay for Grolsch bottles.

Nothing wrong with asking! I've asked here if anyone had old faucets kicking around from an upgrade (offering to pay, of course), and within a week had four of them (plus a couple shanks) at the doorstep. I'd be willing to give away lots of bottles if there was a new homebrewer around who asked nicely.
EDIT: Hell, Glibbidy gave me a case of Grolsch bottles last year, too!
