guys, I bought some lager yeast over the summer, and
never had the setup to use them. Now i'm ready, but the
yeasties date back as far as july. I have an Aug, Sept, Oct
as well. Thought I'd run it by you guys and see what you think.
They've been in the fridge with consistant temps the whole time,
and came here in ice water by car, so they never warmed once.

Any thoughts appreciated.............

I'd use them suckers & never thing a thing about it. I can't say exactly how old of yeast I have used, but theres no harm in trying it! Good luck.

They are good to go, just that there aren't as many viable cells left as there were when it was packaged.

Make a starter and bump it up again before you think about brewing with it.

Make a starter for them...

My lhbs sells outdated yeast cheap.....

If we can grow enough yeast from the dregs in a bottle of rogue beer to ferment a 5 gallon batch, there are still enough viable yeast cells in those tubes/packs to do the same. All you gotta do is step them up.

+1 make a starter with yeast nutrient and oxygenate it. There will be enough to make a batch from a 2 liter starter if it is way out of date. Bump up 2 times for a 10 to 12 gallon batch if making a lager.

I just brought back a tube that had been out of date for 14mos (ie, Sept 07).

Took about two days on the stirplate to get going, and been feeding it ever since. Using it this weekend.
