I've never brewed this.. but its based off Yooper's Dead Guy Clone (which I brewed with fantastic results)...

18# Marris Otter
1.5# Munich
1.5# Caramunich
.75# Crystal- 40L

1.5 oz Pearle @ 60 min
.5 oz Pearle @ 30 min
.5 oz Pearle @ 5 min
.5 oz Saaz @ 5 min

Mash high- 156* or so
Ferment low- 60* or so

Assumes 70% efficiency

I used Wyeast 1056 with a starter (but pacman, obviously, and us-05 will work)

OG- 1.099
FG- 1.025
(with 2 packets of us-05)

SOB_OCDAVE - have you tried this recipe, if so, please share your findings. Would you mind posting your .bsm file for this recipe?

Pennsyltucky - I have a batch of Yoopers DGA clone kegged right now. It is freaking awesome!

@Ultravista, I did make this one and is was very good. It actually ended up in a local pub here in town and was emptied the same night they tapped it. The only issue I had is my mash efficiency was terrible, like 65%, but that is to be expected with such a large grain bill. Good luck!

Can you post your Beersmith .bsm file for this recipe?

May I ask how you calculated the recipe? Trial and error, help from a Rogue brewer, divine guidance, etc?

Thank you for posting.

Pennsyltucky - can you provide tasting notes for this recipe? Also, how did you calculate the recipe? As with OCDAVE, I am curious how this was put together.

Aren't the bittering IBU's off from Rogue's specs? It should be 60, the recipe posted is 30+ IBU higher.

I don't have tasting notes... I just brewed Yooper's Dead Guy clone and it is carbonating now (all of the tastes I've stolen along the way have been great).

This double batch was calculated on Brew Target until it was about double the regular recipe and adjusted in a non-scientific manner (i.e. "I think this looks good")

I have put this on my list though!

@ultravista- One evening back in January, I drank my first Rogue Double Dead Guy Ale and went home and designed this recipe. I'm not exactly sure what the specific IBU's are, but with all that malt you really need the bitterness to balance it out. When i brewed this i used a hop bag and did not get the full utilization of the bittering hops and the beer turned out more malty. I'm not claiming this is the exact recipe that Rogue uses scaled down to 5 gallons, but, I do claim that this is a great imperial IPA recipe!

Here are some numbers per the Rogue web site= 20 degs. plato = 1.084 SG. The recipe I posted assumes a 75% brewhouse efficiency in which the Beersmith calculates SG 1.097. In actuality i experienced a 65% efficiency due to the large grain bill which turns out to be 1.084 SG or 20 degs. Plato. Hope this helps.

As far as the IBU's: all i can say is, "I LOVE HOPS"!
