I recently purchased some brass fittings/ball valve to use for a mash tun and followed the directions in Palmer's book to remove any surface lead by pickling (2 parts vinegar/1 part hydrogen peroxide) for 5 minutes. the problem is i'm left with some spots that are darker greenish...these areas are on the outside of the ball valve. they won't come in contact with the wort. i tried with new solution one more time (for less than 5 minutes) and still didn't achive the finish i expected. i guess it's important to note i also boiled the parts for a minute after each attempt. after wiping them clean there is no residue from the greenish parts.
the mash tun has been assembled and is ready to rock, but i'm concerned about the brass. ideally i'd be able to get it clean.
should i leave it as is or try to pickle until i remove the greenish spots?
