I'm going to try Biermuncher's NewCastle clone for my first AG tonight. He says that converting from 10 to 5 gallons would be easy. Is it as easy as cutting the entire recipe in half? I'm concerned the hop utilization may not split right down the middle? Is it this easy?

as long as its still a full boil for the 5gallon batch, your hop utilization stays the same...thus it really is as simple as dividing everything by 2.

now, if his recipe used hop pellets and you're using whole hops...that changes it just a little. you might need like .25oz more bittering hops since whole hops are slightly less 'potent'.

ditto if his recipe doesn't use a hop bag, and you decide to use one.
