My condolences on your loss, Petie. Remember her well and know you gave her the best possible life she could have lived.

That poem always makes me tear up. We keep a framed copy of it in our "Rainbow Room" at the clinic.

Please know you gave her the best things a dog could ever have - a happy life and a peaceful passing. I've had the honor of helping many dogs find their rest, and I truly believe they understand and are grateful when they say goodbye.

I am so sorry for your loss.

A few minutes ago I laid my best friend to rest. Her battle with bone cancer has ended. I loved her with everything I had and she returned it tenfold. At about 5:15 she ran through the gates of heaven.

Rest in peace Eleanor, we'll see you on the other side.

very sorry about Eleanor.

my 'Scilla and my Goombah will be there so she doesn't get lonely

I feel your loss, there is nothing like the love and trust of our animal companions and it sucks their time with us is so short but we try to make the most of that time, always!
This poem helped my Wife when we lost Kronk to cancer:

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Also sorry for your loss. We lost our Border Collie rather unexpectedly last December and had to put her down. She was the best dog we could have had. I was surprised at how hard I took it. The first month was very difficult.

This spring we decided to honor her by not getting another puppy as we originally planned, but rather adopt an adult Border Collie that did not have a loving home. He came from a bad hoarding situation. We couldn't have made a better decision, we are so happy now. It's way too early in your grieving process to think about that, but I would highly recommend looking into Dog adoption when the time comes.

Hope you can start to remember all the good times you shared with your beloved dog.

Thank you all very much.

I believe my baby girl is in a better place. I have 3 sons that have grown into young men but she was my wife and my selves baby girl.

All my life I've been told that I'm hard around the heart but when I was with Ellie that side of me went away. It's amazing the way these beautiful animals can change us.

I feel as though the pain I feel now has relieved Ellie of hers. I owe her that and I know one day I'll see her again and she will thank me with the wag of her tail and a big slobbery kiss on the face. Until that day comes she will always live on my heart.

This is a pic of the last time she gave me her paw. One day she'll give it to me again.

goddamit between ChshreCat's poster and petie's pic of the paw, y'all made me cry.

petie, so sorry to hear about your loss. a devastating day indeed, one that i'm not looking forward to but know that some day i'll likely have to face it too.

off to go hug my flea bag. she's asleep in her crate and will probably resent me for waking her up but i don't care.

Wonderful... my dog got into the halloween candy I bought and stored away in the kitchen while we were at work today. There wasn't enough chocolate to be an issue... but we didn't find very many of the wrappers so it seems those went down the hatch as well. Talked to the vet and she said he'll probably pass them and to keep an eye on him, but now every time he does anything that doesn't seem like normal happy-go-lucky dog, we're wringing our hands and wondering if it's a sign that he's in distress.

He certainly isn't himself and is acting a bit off, but I'm sure with a belly full of snickers (plus the wrappers) I wouldn't be feeling 100% either. Gonna be a long night and day tomorrow, worrying about him. I already called work and told them not to expect me.

If it makes you feel better, I have never seen a dog obstruct on candy wrappers. That being said, eating an entire bag of snickers will make anyone feel sick for a day or two. :(

So far he's doing ok. He nearly killed us all last night when the farts kicked in though.

He'll be ok. My other Great Dane got a bag of Hershey kisses off the fridge one day. All I found was an empty bag. She was fine but yard was really colorful for a couple days.

My 2nd Aussie would chew, eat, swallow and pass chunk of Persian rugs. Other than that being expensive, she did fine.

Yall want to hook Ozzy (they spelled it wrong) up with a few votes for pet of the week at a local radio station. Hes probably the most qualified dog on this weeks list, but I figure a few extra votes couldnt hurt?

Hes the silhouette.

Its just for a little prize package, but he would love it! He is vane as hell so winning a beauty contest would really help his ego.

Here's my and my girlfriend's little prissy thing. She's not the sharpest dog ever and she is a total weirdo but I love her to death.

Petie I'm a little late.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Eleanor looks like a beautiful dog and must have been a great friend. I wish dogs lived longer than they do. They aren't just a pet, they become a loyal friend and family member.

Hang in there, and do yourself and some pup a favor; give another dog a home soon.

I put in a vote for Ozzy. He seems like a great dog, so I'm sure he deserves it.

There are some great looking dogs on that site. I put in a vote for Ozzy. Good luck Ozzy!:mug:

These are my little ****heads. Jameson is the alcoholic dachshund that I have to physically restrain from taking beer and amazingly, his namesake whiskey. Lilly is just a pup, 1/2 rottie, 1/2 golden retriever...SWMBO got her while I'm still overseas, so I'm haven't met her in person yet. I'm still not convinced that she's not actually a stuffed animal.

I tossed Ozzy my vote, hope he wins!

Here's Ozzy from the park today. He has a major thing for birds (ducks, geese and crows) and so far it's the only thing I can't call him off if he's off leash.

Thanks for the vote!

My Ozzy is the keeper of the squirrels. He goes nuts trying to herd them from the ground.

He caught a groundhog the other day I think it surprised him that it wasn't like his toys when he grabbed it, it screamed, he dropped it and it got away when I called him off

The first time I took my lab hunting she flushed a rabbit out and I shot it. She looked at me like "what'd you do!!!". Now when I cast her out, she know's the hunt is ON.

KB is the same way. If we run across ducks or geese he gets a crazed look on his face and REALLY wants us to let him go and bring us a duck. Same with rabbits.

Howdy der Bier Hund has brought us back 2 rabbits. one full-sized, another no bigger than my fist

it's what Beagles were bred to do

I've always thought it a cruel joke that a baby rabbit sounds remarkably similar to a dog's squeak toy.

And when Sage catches one, the result is often the same...

our other Beagles didn't want anything to do with squeak toys, probably would have run from a rabbit

If that wasn't an intentional pun you should be punched. If it was intentional you should get a swift kick in the balls.

This guy shows up at my in-laws every morning. The dog that is. I think they're going to keep him which may not go over well with the folks who let him run free.

It might have been, you'll never know.

Also I have a picture somewhere of Ozzy biting the head off a bat toy when he was a pup. Fitting? I'll see if I can find it.

If they let it run free there isn't much they can say

An occasional rabbit does get in the yard from time to time and it's hilarious. Lady on the left (folks pup) and Mazie on the right. She replaced our last beagle, Eagle (rip). It gets easier but you never forget. :mug:

Ironically Ozzy has zero interesting the rabbitsin the field across from my house it's my 11lb cat they have to be afraid off. So far he's gotten fourth at we know off, all he leaves us is their back feet and some fur.
