If your beer is in a room that gets full sun and you wrap your carboy with a regular bath towel, is that enought to prevent skunking?

It should be. You just want to keep the beer out of the direct light as much as possible. It's the UV elements of sunlight that are harmful, and they are easy to filter.

I used to use an old sweatshirt for both insulation and sunlight barrier (I built a ferm chamber). Just a little side note, most houses now a days have low energy windows that block a lot of UVs (But not all), protect thy beer!

If it was me, I would try to find a cardboard box that would cover the carboy. That would be a little easier to deal with than towels or sweatshirts and such... Quite honestly, I would go with a plastic bucket instead of a carboy in that situation also.
