I don't know much about stirplates, but I am wondering on what grounds someone decides what the speed of the stirring should be for growing the most viable and dense yeast starters?

Also, what is the period of time one should stir the flask on a stirplate? Constantly or every 5 hours, and for how long?

I have no clue what speed to put and for how long if I would have to make a yeast starter...

Thanks for the help!

Run it just fast enough to barely make a vortex. Any faster is a waste and is more likely to result in a thrown stir bar.

For standard ale or lager yeast at room temperature the starter will be complete in around 18 to 36 hours. Just shine a light on it and look for rising bubbles. When there are no more bubbles it is done.
