New to kombucha but Ive brewed my own beer a few times and I make kale shakes on the reg. So Im just wanting to jump right in. I want a big enough container to continuously supply everyone in my home (currently 3 people total)

questions:
1) which brand is good for the money?
2) how big should my crock be? 3-4 gallons?
3) spigot vs no spigot? (I prefer spigot if its really easier in the long run)
4) if yes to spigot: metal vs plastic vs bamboo?
5) crock pot ceramic top vs cloth top?
6) if cloth then which cloth should I use?
7) how do I secure cloth (large rubber band?)

thanks

A one-gallon fermenter makes enough for me to have one 16oz bottle per day for a week. How large you will need will be dependant mostly on how much y'all will drink. Assuming a one-a-day habit, a 3 gallon crock should be sufficient for 3 people.

Don't know about brands; I just bought a cheap 1-gallon glass jar with a spigot from the grocery store, and it has served me well for nearly a year now.

I definitely recommend getting one with a spigot. Makes things SO much easier.

My spigot is plastic. It works fine. Not sure I'd trust bamboo to stay clean, but I've never tried it.

Cloth top. It needs to breathe.

Doesn't matter what kind of cloth, so long as it's clean and keeps particulate out. A cheesecloth or clean dishtowel should do it. Or even a few sheets of paper towel.

I use a rubber band to secure mine.

Cheers.
