I've got a bender PM 5 gallon kit from NB just waiting to be brewed. I just recently tasted a great vanilla stout, which gave me this idea...

Split the bender into two carboys. One being the standard bender, and one adding some vanilla bean or vanilla extract to create a vanilla bender. Should be a good compliment to the standard profile.

My plan is to update this thread with the results, however I won't be able to brew this for a few weeks...

Anybody already try this? If so, what were the results?

Other thoughts?

Thanks!

I would put the vanilla in the primary after a week if you are not doing a secondary or the secondary and if you are really worried about infections add the vanilla at knockout. Extract will work well I would think but might give harsher flavors since it's basically soaked in burbon or some other chemical that I don't want to think about.
