Brewed an extract Liberty Creme Ale from Midwest last night. Was
sitting at 1.038 @ around 72 Degree sample temp. What can I expect?

You have a set amount of sugars in an extract kit and other than putting a lot of extra water in there, the gravity is just where the kit says it will be.

The OG readings on extract kits are almost always off because the wort and the top off water don't get mixed well enough. No big deal, it will turn out just like the instructions say it will.

yep. unless you had a boil over, or you didn't pour all the extract in the pot, or you increased the amount of water the recipe called for, you can't miss your OG by much.

you're just not getting a good reading because the extract is settled to the bottom.
