I just used a noprene gasket to create a seal on my keg is there any reason I might not want to use that material as a gasket?

The temperature rating of a neoprene gasket is only ~250F. While the boiling wort is only at 212F, if the gasket is on the outside of the kettle and near the flames, it may fail due to the high temps it sees.

Silicone is rated at ~500F and would be a much better choice. However, depending on the location on the keg, the neoprene may work.
