Dang.

I thought I could chime in as the first professional firefighter. Wildland firefighter.

Thats what I do. I work for the Forest Service. I travel all over the country all year long. I'm in Oklahoma right now.

When I'm at home, I brew, I woodwork, a try to keep a houe up & running while only being there 4 or 5 months a year. My hobbies list is pretty short. Almost forgot to mention the family farm that occupies a big portion of my time....

I'm a network engineer, pretty much anything TCP/IP, routing, switching, etc. (v4 and v6), I also do some work in data security and UNIX services (they all kinda go hand in hand).
A few of my pastimes are submission grappling (i.e. Brazilian jiu jitsu), cycling, a little boxing on occasion and hanging out with SWMBO and the dogs, and, of course, homebrewing.

:( ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I am a Salesman for a Used part company here in Spokane
nice little family run place it first opened it's door in the 1930's

right now it employs 200 people and takes up 54 acres of land

and on the weekends I am a Soldier in the Washington National Guard

I have served 8 years in the Army 5 of them I spent overseas

and getting ready for my 6th year :)( yeah)

I have a degree in French and International Relations but currently provide desktop support at one of the top medical schools in the country. It doesn't pay all that well but it's low stress. I set my own schedule and get to wander around campus. Great benefits too... When I lived in Minneapolis I did computer support over the phone in french and english, but couldn't find a french-speaking job when I moved here 6 years ago.

Hobbies: I'm a "taper" - I record live music performances. You can check out some of my recordings on Archive.org. It's free to stream and/or download. I travel all over the midwest to record music. Travelling is great as it gives me the opportunity to try new breweries and play new disc golf courses. I read a lot since I have an hour per day on the train commuting to/from work. I also spend lots of time in the kitchen cooking. SWMBO trains German Shepherd dogs for a dog sport called Schutzhund. It's a lot like police dog work - I'm sure you can find some videos on YouTube to check it out. Anyway, she's really good at it and we've had dogs compete at the National and North American championship level. We just had a litter of puppies a few days before Xmas and they're keeping us busy! Even though the dogs are 'her' thing, both our lives tend to revolve around all things canine. Right now we have NINE dogs at our house!!!

I can identify with that. My wife is a vet and she also does humane education and training. We have 2 dogs and 5 cats so our world kinda revolves around that as well.

Nice. I'm a former taper myself. Spent about 8-9 years recording shows. You do any stealth work, or just keep them flying about the crowd?

Im a "Solution Consultant" which is the best possible way of saying I work at a hardware store. But more inportantly Im working on my degree. Looking to get into GIS. Possible involved with real estate but keeping my options and my mind open. For the first time in my life Im f^cking excited as hell about school and cant wait to get a job to support my brewing habit.
My other hobbies include reading about and hoping to jump into linux. Also naked fun with my red head.:ban: ;) :D

I am a biologist by training, and hold a position as an Associate Professor at one of the larger research-oriented universities here in Canada. By night, I try to play amateur microbiologist (aka yeast wrangler) in my basement. ;)

As for other hobbies, fly fishing is my passion. Brewing is fun in the winter, but I love the outdoors, and use every free minute I can fishing or hunting when the weather is warm. I also recently started entering homebrews in competitions -- nothing to show for it so far, but my beer is improving. I am also studying for the BJCP exam this spring. For a research project at work, I got pushed into buying some good camera gear and playing photographer, and that is also evolving into a fun new hobby.

Last but certainly not least, I am also a happy husband and proud father of a beautiful two-year-old girl who is the center of my life. I am now finding ways to turn my pastimes into family events (which is slowly getting easier!).

I hear ya! I'm looking forward to when my daughter is old enough to engage in activities beyond her current limitations as a 1yo :D

I am a child and adolescent psychiatrist. I did the med school thing and trained like every other doctor, specializing in psychiatry, then subspecializing in kids/teens. I love what I do, in general. The only thing I hate is running a practice. I'm not good at the business end of things...but that's about to end! I've been offered a job as a faculty member at my old medical school. Teaching, again! It's going to be sweet. But the transition will suck, no doubt. Just have to keep my eyes on the prize.

Hobbies: long-distance motorcycling, motorcycle camping, playing with the dogs, reading, cooking,

I am a police patrolman in a 5.4sq mile town outside of NYC. Amateur mixed martial artist, musician, and BBQ/beer enthusiast.

Currently working my butt off to get into the peak of physical shape needed for the county SWAT team. Tough to do when drinking homebrew!

Registered Nurse, right now I'm on a step down telemetry floor, have done medical and cardiac ICU, Nuero Surgery ICU, Supercision, ER, Othopaedics and Kidney transplant. Still trying to figure out what i want to do when i grow up.
My other hobbies are drag rcing/cars in general, golf(8 hcp)guitar and cigars.

Entrepreneur, just brought our first product to market. The Groqit is a portable, inventory computer with a built-in barcode reader.

Cool idea. I could definitely use that for movies. We have about 4 copies of Home Alone. Good job :rockin:

99% of what I record is "open" taping. I hate stealthing and avoid it as much as possible. More than likely I'll skip a concert if I know I won't be able to fly my mics.

Actually my real job isn't all that exciting. Usually when I tell people "I maintain, program and analyze real time physics based environmental simulations", I usually get a blank stare. :tank:

Bromley, you ever come across a drilling company in the field called Keck. I used to work for them making ground water measuring equipment when I thought I wanted to be an electronic technician.

Can't say I've heard of them. But then, my only contact with private drilling companies is to look up public records of well logs when we're having difficulties getting our own holes down. And we only classify soils down to 80 inches so we're not real concerned with deep drilling.

I am an inventory analyst/planner for a multi-national paper company.
Outside of work, I like to garden, cook, & paint. I am involved in local historic preservation work as well.

I work for HP and do configuration management for our mechanical engineering department. Basically we build really big printers and I make sure all part changes are passed through a controlled process. I also help buy some of those prototypes. Overall not an exciting job, but it pays the bills.

I went to college for Game Design and graduated a few months after 9/11, so finding a job in the industry wasn't particularily easy...which is why I'm here. I do plan on going back to school for a general CS degree and maybe move to a software division in HP.

Hobbies outside of brewing are video games, anime, Go, hunting, fishing, and camping.

Lets see....

I'm a Web Admin at a larger insurance company in the midwest (probably not the first one you would find on google). I do website gatekeeper work as well as perl scripting and others. On the side, I run my own buisness doing Network Design and Installation, Website Development, Linux/UNIX administration, and other IT related jobs. Mostly government contracts and local word-of-mouth pc repair.

Hobby Wise:

I'm a magician, singer/guitar player in a christian praise band, beagle foster/rescue, motorcycle rider, beer brewer, waterfowl and deer hunter, fishing, camping, hiking, and probably others I can't recall right now.

Getting my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in may.:rockin:
Hope to design and build off-the-grid houses after that.
Right now I work part time designing and building adaptive equipment for developmentally disabled adults.
When I'm not obsessing over all things brewing, I play the banjo (poorly).

I am a rocket surgeon, so if you ever need a super smart rocket surgeon let me know.

My hobbies include table tennis, taxidermy, gardening, brewing beer, clubbing seals and making hats from their fur, and looking at internet porn.

I am really a research analyst and I teach part time at a local community college, where I bemoan the overall degradation in the quality of students since I was last in school 6 months ago.

That's really creepy, because two of my hobbies are Clubbing seals and making internet porn with their fur, and Making hats.

Odd little world we live in.

Test Engineer-Dynamics, Vibration and Shock testing to be specific with a bit of acceleration testing thrown in for fun.
Did you see the Ford commercial right before the kickoff of Superbowl? The one where they were spinning up the F150 by the tow hooks? Yep, that was us. Oh,
btw, most of the setup was 'puter graphics. The test was real but the centrifuge pit ain't all that pretty in real life.

I am a Fulfillment Coodinator for a very large and despised cable company. I fix the mistakes Customer Service makes when you order cable or have problems so the technician who comes out to your house doesnt look like so much of a ******.

I work in finance for a big silicon chip manufacturer. The hours flexible and I can work anywhere within reason. It's not my passion, but it pays the bills and allows the wife, two kids and I to live a nice lifestyle.

In my spare time I love to spend with the kids, snowboard, lift weights, brew(duh), and hang with friends.

I'm noticing a lot of programmers here. A trend?

If it is a trend, they can trend it.

Now about you Code Monkeys. You fire and electrical code monkeys are OK. Your monkerey keeps the magic lightning hole from setting magic lightning fire to my house. Just don't start retro acting a bunch of laws for stuff that worked fine since the dawn of time. I know I need a one big switch main breaker. I'm getting a guy for that.

now is that your lint, or famous lint?
Genre lint -- skinny person lint, fat person lint, ethnicity-based lint, etc. The famous lint's out of my price range; can only look at the pictures in BB Lint Monthly and drool.

I do public health policy analysis at a non-profit research company based in Research Triangle Park. My work focuses on tobacco use cessation and prevention, but I also have an interest in the effects of beer marketing on alcohol use/abuse.

Our clients include the federal government, several state governments, and a few non-governmental advocacy organizations. We have been very successful winning grant funding for some of our work.

I do a lot of statistical analysis (panel data econometrics, time series, multi-level modelling, and survey design and analysis) and report writing. I've published several papers in peer reviewed journals and I often make presentations to clients and at scientific conferences.

I work overnights in an inner city Emergency Room. It's just about the most fun you can have with your clothes on. We thwart Darwins grand design nightly. I'm slowly, very slowly working towards my masters as a Nurse Practitioner.

SWMBO and I just got married last April. Pretty great to find someone who is such a perfect fit for you when you least expect it. For fun, we scuba dive a lot, both here in New England year round and trips to warmer waters. We are leaving for Key Largo tomorrow morning. Plan on doing two of my favorite dives, the USS Speigle Grove and the USCGC Dwayne. The best part of diving the Dwayne is that I spent some time on her when I was in the Coast Guard many years ago.
We also make wine together. We have about 150 gallons in the cellar, bottled, in carboys and in barrels. She makes cheese, I make beer. Lately I've been delving into sausage making.

And between us we have 3 daughters aged 24 (as of yesterday) 22, and 21.
