hi everyone new to brewing so i figured i would join a forum for help.
I'm going to start my first brew this Saturday. thinking of doing a porter since there my favorite. wondering if anyone has any good advice for me.
such as what hops to use.

Welcome! I'd suggest doing what I did and go to a home brew shop, and ask the brewkeep if he has any "kits" that you could buy that have all the hops and stuff required to make the brew ( not equipment though, unless you have that already )
With my first "real" beer I'm making a Wilde Irish Red that I've neglected for about a month in my primary fermenter lol, I need to go buy bottles when I get off work in 5 hrs lol

Cool i have and old slide scale with recipes on it i sort of followed it
7lbs dark LME
8oz chocolate malt
3oz fuggle
1/2 fuggle finishing

went to the secondary yesterday. so six in the primary. i've read a lot that people hear don't like the secondary. I've also talk to a few people who have brewed a lot and swear by it. bought the kit for 50$ cam with secondary so i figured i would use it.

tasted when i racked and it tasted pretty watered down is this normal.
