So I finally picked up a freezer to use as a fermenter, no more hoping the ambient air temp is good. So I figured I would set it up with a dual controller and I know some have been using lizard tape for a heat source, is there a specific amount to use per cubic foot of freezer space or wall surface, wondering how much I need to use. I wont need to worry about heating it for about a year (its going to be in the garage) but figure I might as well set it up right the first time

I would recommend wrapping the fermentor itself with the flex watt. It is a real gentle heat and needs to be attached to what you are heating. You will need way less and probably have better results.
