Just a quick question all you Brooklyn homebrewers - I just relocated to Brooklyn from San Diego, and have a question about water quality. Do you guys filter your water for brewing, or just use it strait from the tap? In San Diego I used the water without filtering and made great beers, but I have noticed the water in Brooklyn tends to be "off color". Your thoughts on this issue would help, as I'm getting ready to brew next week.
 
The off color is more than likely coming from your building's pipes. I live in Staten Island, but most of the city's water comes from the same source (a smaller section gets it from a different resevoir). Everyone I know, except for one guy who knows of a spring, uses tap water to brew. I brew with mine straight from the tap without any treatment.
