I would visit one of the John Harvard's locations... There's one in Cambridge, as well as Framingham (the one I visit since I live in Natick)...
There are a few more breweries besides SA in the area. There's Wachussett Brewing and Harpoon Brewery to name just two.

Faneuil Hall has a least a dozen bars. Some are pretty good. The Sunset grill in Brighton has at least a hundred beers on tap and hundreds of micros.http://www.allstonsfinest.com/ ....Sunset grill is about a 15-20 cab ride from downtown. Worth the quick trip... There are bars everywhere. Too bad it wasn't this weekend, The Yankees are in town. Lots of energy...
