Just made two heatsticks and used them for the first time yesterday. Wondering what others do to clean them. Do you leaved the oxidized layer on like you would for a brew kettle?

i leave the oxidized layer and it has worked fine. i only use mine for the HLT, so i don't really need to clean them. but, i would just rinse them off after the boil (if that's what you use it for) and call it good.

I use a green scrub pad to remove the cooked on trub. A short soak first and it comes right off.
