I know tannins are a undesired soury bittery taste and I know they come from over crushing grain, sparging at to high of a temp, mashing to long and so on.
Are tannins the same thing you get when not properly cleaning? Thanks

Far as I know tannins are leached out of the grain and I do not suspect that improper cleaning would cause this to happen but there are certainly bacteria that can give astringent bitter taste to beer that would absolutely be a sanitation issue.

No, improper cleaning will not result in tannins.

Are you experiencing an off-flavour and looking for the source? Or just curious?
