Goodbye to you, my trusted friend.
We've known each other since we're nine or ten.
Together we climbed hills or trees.
Learned of love and ABC's,
skinned our hearts and skinned our knees.
Goodbye my friend, it's hard to die,
when all the birds are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
Pretty girls are everywhere.
When you see them I'll be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the hills that we climbed
were just seasons out of time.

(to my young green friend from childhood, truly died from a broken heart; I miss you buddy)

Devious movements in your eyes
Moved me from relief
Breath comes out white clouds with your lies
And filters through me
You're close to the final word
You're staring right past me in dismay
A liquid seeps from your chest
And drains me away
Mist ripples round your thin white neck
And draws me a line
Cold fingers mark this dying wreck
This moment is mine

Bleak - Opeth

I was on a Paris train, I emerged in London rain.

He must have been an admiral, a sultan, or a king
And to his praises we shall always sing
A look what he has done for us, he's filled us up with cheer!
The Lord bless Charlie Mops the man who invented beer, beer, beer tiddly beer, beer, beer!

*This should be played during ever brew session

Some balls are held for charity, some for fancy dress
But when they're held for pleasure they're the balls that I like best
My balls are always bouncing to the left and to the right
It's my belief that my big balls should be held every night
Big Balls - AC/DC

Two flags fly above my land that really sum up how I feel,
One is the colors that fly high and proud, the red the white the blue,
The other ones got a rattlesnake with a simple statement made,
Don't tread on me, is what it says, and I'll take that to my grave.

I'm a little surprised there has only been one addition from a Beatle...

Cliche or not, it's still the best lyric ever written..

"...and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make"

Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
Those days are over
You don't have to sell your body to the night
Roxanne!!....

Edit: Probably going against the OP's grain.

Lyrics are great and I could post all day..but nothing like the originals did say.

Fat Bottom Girls You make the rocking world go 'round.

In the morning
Don't say you love me
Cause I'll only kick you out of the door

I know your name is rita
Cause your perfum smelling sweeter
Since when I saw you down on the floor

Wont need to much pursuading
I don't mean to sound degrading
But with a face like that
You got nothing to laugh about

Red lips hair and fingernails
I hear your a mean old jezabel
Lets go up stairs and read my tarot cards

Stay with me
Stay with me
For tonight you better stay with me

Stay with me
Stay with me
For tonight you better stay with me

So in the morning
Please don't say you love me
Cause you know I'll only kick you out the door

Yea I'll pay your cab fare home
You can even use my best colonge
Just don't be here in the morning when I wake up

Stay with Me - Faces

When supper time came the old cook came on deck sayin' "fellas it's too rough to feed ya".
At 7 pm the main hatch way caved in he said, fellas it's been good to know ya."
The Wreck of the Edmond Fittzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dip****s.

When can I take you from this place?
When is the word but a sigh?
When is death our lone beholder?
When would we walk the final steps?
When can we scream instead of whisper?
When is the new beginning,
and the end of this sad madrigal?

When - Opeth

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah
Canada's greatest songwriter and poet, by far.

You're lazy, you just stay in bed
Oh you're lazy, you just stay in bed
Don't want no money, you don't want no bread

If you're drowning, you don't clutch no straw no
If you're drowning, you don't clutch no straw
You don't want to live, don't want to cry no more

DP - Lazy RIP JL

You can't expect to see him and survive
You'll swallow his tongue of thorns
His mouth, dripping with flies
In his glorious kingdom of fire
But I believe he wept
I will make them all lie down
Down where hope lies dying
With lust, you're kicking mankind to death
We live and die without hope
You tramp us down in a river of death
As I stand here now, my heart is black
I don't want to die a lonely man
This is a weary hour
This is a weary hour

The Cry of Mankind - My Dying Bride

No Townes Van Zandt yet?

Well, won't you lend your lungs to me?
Mine are collapsing.
Plant my feet and bitterly breathe
Up the time that's passing.
Breath I'll take and breath I'll give
Pray the day ain't poison
Stand among the ones that live
In lonely indecision.

Fingers walk the darkness down
Mind is on the midnight
Gather up the gold you've found
You fool, it's only moonlight.
If you try to take it home,
Your hands will turn to butter
You better leave this dream alone
Try to find another.

Salvation sat and crossed herself
Called the devil partner
Wisdom burned upon a shelf
Who'll kill the raging cancer?
Seal the river at its mouth
Take the water prisoner
Fill the sky with screams and cries
Bathe in fiery answers

Here is the Townes version:

Or the Steve Earle cover version if you want something more rockin:

What in the world ever became of Sweet Jane?
She lost her sparkle, you know she isn't the same
Livin on reds, vitamin-C, and cocaine
All a friend can say is, "ain't it a shame?".

Truckin up to Buffalo, been thinkin, you got to mellow slow
Takes time, you pick a place to go, and just keep truckin on

Idk if it's a song,but this country comic feller on youtrub does on I like. "Gimmy titties-n-beer,Yeah I love titties-n-beer.If you don't,you're queer,gimmy titties-n-beer"!;):rockin:

To be fair to the OP's request of "favorite song," I'd have to list a Springsteen lyric. However, my favorite lyric of all time is probably:

"Little ol' lady got mutilated late last night" --Warren Zevon

The alliterative phrasing is genius!

Carrington has another one that's funny, but true. "Dear penis (unis),I don't think I like you, anymore. You used to watch me shave...now all ya do is stare at the floor. Dear penis,I don't think I like you, anymore. :D
