Can residual wine juice from a commercial wine stop fermentation? I just loaded a gallon of apple juice into a Carlos de Rossi Rhine wine jug. I added a package of wine yeast and a cup of sugar. After I was done I realized there might be some type of additive in the commercial wine that would stop yeast from fermenting. Should I be concerned?

I wouldn't worry about that - however it sounds like you didn't sanitize before using the jug. Potential infection would be a much bigger concern.

LOTS of people, myself included, use Carlo Rossi jugs on a regular basis. They work very well, but ONLY if you have sanitized them well before use.

Sour taste smell ie stuff floating or forming on the top that's hairy looking
