    Budget Basement Brewery Build

I am planning to hang a rubbermaid tote upside down over the kettle with a tap cut in it. Cheap and easy. Looking at this fan in the 6" size. Hyrdofarm

    Murphy's Stout BIAB Recipe, Help!

That's a lot of water for that amount of grain. I use about 7.5 gallons for a 5.5 gallon batch into the fermentor. I squeeze the bag so I have very little grain absorption. Attached is my BIAB profile.

    Software

Beersmith is really good. I used Brewtarget for a long time but it seems development stopped on it.

    Dark English Milds are AMAZING

Funny you just posted this recipe I just started searching for info on a dark mild. Did you just do a bittering addition for the hops? I am going to try this with some hazelnut extract.

Grain bill too large for kettle.

If my grain bill needs 14 gallons of water I just heat all the water then drain out two or three gallons into a bucket or extra pot. Once the mash is done and I get what I can out of the bag I put it in the bucket or pot and dunk the bag and squeeze out what I can then pour it into my boil kettle.

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

Had that happen to me a few months ago. Luckily I had a backup and only lost a few recipes. :(

Cold crashing - Step by step vs. All at once

I turn it down all at once. Sometimes I use foil or I take a piece of rolled up paper towel and soak up some of the sanitizer in the airlock so it barely covers the holes on the center piece. I use three piece airlocks.

30# grain bill in 15g pot?

I did 20 lbs last weekend for a 11 gallon batch and it was pretty simple. I calculated my batch as usual then took out 3 gallons and figured the strike temp based on that amount. I added the total 14 gallons I needed and heated that up to my strike temp then drained out 3 gallons into another...

    Vinyl tubing oily

Replaced the lines with polyurethane tubing. It's good for low temps. Here is the line I replaced.

Is PVC/ Polyurethane Air Hose ok for co2

That's good to hear because I picked up 50' for $12. Plus it's supposed to stay flexible when cold.

Have you ever found an answer? I plan on using it.

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

Is there a way to import recipes and equipment only? I have duplicate items in my styles, and ingredients probably from past upgrades. I would like reinstall new and just import my equipment and recipes.

    Newbie BIABer looking for guidance

Nice work on the calculator. I looked last night and I think the .2 is quarts per gallon. That's what I have in brewtarget.

    Newbie BIABer looking for guidance

I agree take a look at your crush. However, every time I have been low since getting my mill was due to volume issues. Worked on dialing that in haven't been low since. Tighten your mill up and keep good notes on volumes and you'll nail it. :mug:

    Newbie BIABer looking for guidance

I think .1 or .2 is too high. Try plugging .08 into the spreadsheet. I dialed my absorption in and settled on .05 after carefully calculating my volumes over several batches. Now I am always within a point or two with my OG. Honestly a pair of gloves was great investment. PVC Gloves What...

    Newbie BIABer looking for guidance

Volume could contribute to the low OG. I usually start with around 7.5 gallons and end up with 6.5-7 gallons for the boil. My grain absorption in my spreadsheet is .05 gallons per pound. I squeeze the bag with some heavy PVC gloves. Here is my current spreadsheet it's been really accurate...

    Vinyl tubing oily

Looks similar I only use it for gas line. Seems to come out when the tubing gets cold.
