    Adventures with Surly Furious

If I'm using the pellets that came with the kit would it be bad to squeeze out the bag to get a few last drops of goodness out? If it introduces oxygen is there anyway to counteract that, possibly by fermenting for another couple days, or would I lose hop aroma that way? Thanks for the feedback.

    Adventures with Surly Furious

Old thread, but hoping to maybe get some info from you perc. After you cold crashed and racked did you lose a lot of beer to the trub and hop mess at the bottom? I'm trying to avoid that, I brewed this just over a week ago and trying to figure out how to proceed before this weekend. Thanks.

NB Kit Recipe Calls for Secondary // Do I Need to?

My biggest concern was losing too much beer if I put them in loose as I'm using pellets. Will the screen over my auto siphon work with the muck that the pellets turn into also? Thanks.

NB Kit Recipe Calls for Secondary // Do I Need to?

The NB extract kit I am breing right now calls for secondary fermentation, and normally I would do this no problem, but the recipe also calls for dry hopping with 8+ oz of hops. I have no desire to try and fish out a bunch of bags of hops from my glass carboy afterward, and I don't want to put...

Dry Hopping NB"s Surly Furious Kit w/ 8.5 oz

I wasn't sure if it would be good or not to get the beer off of the trub to help it clear up.

Dry Hopping NB"s Surly Furious Kit w/ 8.5 oz

I'm trying to figure out the best way to dry hop this one without losing too much beer in the process, which from what I've read will mean not adding the pellets straight to the secondary without some way to contain them. My primary is a 6.5 gallon Ale Pale and I secondary in a glass carboy...

Surly Furious Extract Kit // Pitched Yeast too Hot

Well, fermentation went gangbusters in the first 24 hours. I had the temp down into the 75-77 range the first night, I was hoping it would have been a little lower, but not quite cool enough in the house. I moved it to a different room and added a wet towel that brought it down into the low...

Surly Furious Extract Kit // Pitched Yeast too Hot

Thanks for all the feedback, now I'm just trying to get the temp down to the low 70's - upper 60's. A little tough this time of year when you don't have a basement or a lot of space. Wet towel around the primary right now in my crawlspace, hopefully that will do the trick.

Surly Furious Extract Kit // Pitched Yeast too Hot

So I was brewing my 4th batch today, went with NB's Pro Series Surly Furious Extract Kit. It was a rough day, I turned away for about 10 seconds after adding the DME at 45 minutes and got a small boil over. My wort chiller came detached from the hose, untightened clamp, right as I started...

Dead Ringer IPA from NB, any experience?

The Dead Ringer is a clone of Bell's Two Hearted Ale. Not sure if you get that out in CA, but it's a very good American IPA brewed in Mich. NB had to change the name after the threat of legal action from Bell's. Here's a funny article about the Cease & Desist letter to NB...
