Why Not Just Plug Into the Dryer Outlet?

As so many before, I'd really like to get away from using gas and go electric for my 6 gallon boils. Have visited all the usual sites and read numerous posts which all seem to indicate this is a fairly involved process. All I want to do is stick an element into my brew kettle and plug it in when...

    Why So Much Foam?

My "yes" response was directed toward the comment about taking SG readings. I will be doing the calculations to determine the right amount of sugar for the batch.

    Why So Much Foam?

Golddiggie- Yes, I take a starting gravity read then wait a week and start re-testing until no lower reading is had. After carbing for 3 wks, I move to a cold frig around 40 for the duration. I resist sampling the brew for at least a week or two. Yes, I have been taking the full 5oz of priming...

    Why So Much Foam?

By 3 weeks, I am referring to the amount of time I let the bottled brew sit at 70deg. to allow for carbonation before moving the bottles to cold storage. That is the amount of time I have read that one should allow for full carbonation. I am using the amount of priming sugar supplied in the...

    Why So Much Foam?

Lately, every extract batch I make is overly foamy. Even when poured slowly down the side of the glass, I cannot pour the entire bottle without overrunning the glass with foam. I bottle when my SG is stable and carbonate for a full 3 weeks after bottling. Seems like maybe I should cut back to...

    Alcohol Content Always Seems Low

Wow! I didn't expect such a great response. Let me try to answer the questions: 1) All my kits have been ales, mostly from Midwest but a couple from Williams. Summer ale, Pumpkin, Holiday, Irish Red, etc. No home recipes at this point. 2) I always get the Wyeast smack packs with my kits. They...

    Alcohol Content Always Seems Low

Hi- I brew from extract kits and always use the bag of priming sugar when I bottle. My beer comes out fine but every batch seems low in alcohol to me, i.e. not much of a buzz after 2 or 3 bottles. Comparing to drinking say 3 bottles of a store bought beer, mine seems pretty light on the...

    Sani-Clean Rinsing

Does SaniClean need to be rinsed after use? Seems I read somewhere that it was recommended, but I bought it thinking it was a quick, no rinse sanitizer like Star San.

    Pumpkin Ale with little flavor

Don't recall if I added brown sugar or not. I did have a whopping amount of sediment thanks to the pumpkin. Made it a bit of a pain to rack and bottle considering I have a spigot on my primary bucket.

Used PBW Instead of Sanitizer-Is the Batch Shot?

To clarify, I have been using a sanitizer (brand eludes me for the moment) that does require rinsing. I sanitize thoroughly with this stuff then rinse it off with hot water and proceed. I've had no problems with any other batch doing this. I do have some StarSan but was simply using up the...

Why is my brew so foamy?

The batch was brewed from a Williams Brewing kit so the priming sugar was pre-measured in a sealed pouch. I bottled at room temp then let it carb up, also at room temp, for 3 weeks, then on to aging in frig at around 40-45 degrees.

Why is my brew so foamy?

    I bottled the entire batch

    Pumpkin Ale with little flavor

I used two 30oz cans of pumpkin added to the boil. Spices went in during the boil but can't say when as I do not have my brew notes in front of me. Everything went in during the boil.

Used PBW Instead of Sanitizer-Is the Batch Shot?

Thanks for the input. Yeah, all items were thoroughly rinsed with hot water and started out super clean to begin with. I always sanitize because its just too much of a waste to lose a batch.
